Melinda's Going on a Mission...But When and Where???

Melinda's Going on a Mission...But When and Where???

At the beginning of this week my Bishop let me know that the status of my call was "Ready for Assignment." That means that they might have made the assignment yesterday (Thursday)! Sometime soon my call will be mailed! I can hardly wait!

That also means that it is time to get the guesses going. I think it is fair to have one state-side and one foreign guess. Feel free to post your guesses as to where I will go and when the call will arrive!

I Love you all!!!

Utah leaves and Arizona fall...best of both worlds

Utah leaves and Arizona fall...best of both worlds

What a sweetie that Melinda is. She sent her family this notice "Happy Fall! I picke these up ont he way back from school and thought I would share them with you! Ü Love ya, Melinda"
The leaves were great. And huge! The biggest one (not shown here) is 12 inches across! But the best part was we got to have some of Melinda in our home. To think of us and sent it was great. So we are sharing her with all of you.
Adam wanted to take a leaf outside and watch it fall. Here is a movie of him doing just that!
Thanks Melinda!

My engagement pictures!

Hello everyone! I am sitting here with Melinda before the class that we have together, looking at my engagement pictures. My friend, Spencer, put them on his website, so I decided to post it here so you can all look at how cute we are! This is the address: www.spencerrussell.com, then click on Pictures, then Reid's Pictures. Be sure to tell me which ones are your favorites!

Love to all,
Becca

Dearest Family and Friends,

Happy couple on their 50th anniversary

Early this morning we received a phone call from our family suggesting that we visit the family website. You cannot imagine the wonderful feelings and memories we had as we laughed and cried for joy with each of the eighty comments from all of you. Later, we took a walk in our neighborhood. It is wonderful spring in South Africa. The birds were singing, the weavers were building their hanging nests and the doves were cooing. It seemed that the whole world was celebrating life as we were.

Later today we will be in the Temple with other missionary couples. They are capable dedicated people who are engaged in the building of the Lord’s kingdom here. Their company is so pleasant because they have the gentle spirit of the Lord that gives them an aura of goodness.

We know we are blessed with the wonderful tender mercies of the Lord to even be here at this stage of our lives. Yet even beyond this, he has given us the pure joy of hearing from wonderful people who esteem us well and who have helped us to be better people. In the D&C the Lord says that the ‘Laborer is worthy of his hire.’ He is the kindest most gracious employer that can be imagined. Our meager efforts to help with the divine work of bringing souls to the wonderful arms of his mercy and light is so puny compared to his marvelous blessings to us.

Thanks to each of you for your kindness to remember us. When we die, we will take no worldly possessions. But we will have our memories and we will enjoy the same sociality that we now have. Therefore, family and friends are not only wonderful in this life, they are eternal blessings. We are truly touched and so very grateful to know you now and forever. We anticipate a reply to each of you as we can arrange the time to do so. We are smiling all the day because of you.

With deepest gratitude and love,

Elder and Sister Free, Joseph and Isabel, Mom and Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, blessed friends.

Darrell Hicks Free

Uncle Darrell

17 Feb 1911 - 1 Sep 2005
We received the news today that Uncle Darrell passed away this morning.

From Mom:
Uncle Darell passed away this morning, Sep 1, at his home. Aunt Rhea and Uncle Duane had been with him on the weekend and he was doing pretty well. Even took a long ride with them and saw herds of elk which pleased him. Rhea left there on Sunday evening and this morning, after his breakfast he passed away. He was a wonderful uncle to your Dad. It is wonderful to think of him at last out of pain and lonliness.

From Uncle Duane:
I wanted to let you know that they have planned for his funeral services to be next Tuesday afternoon in Pioche at the cemetary. He had made specific requests for only a graveside service. I do not know yet what time on Tuesday, only that it will be Tuesday afternoon. You have such a great e-mail list that you may want to forward this info to those of your family who would be interested as well. (more...)

Can we all do a session together?

Can we all do a session together?

So Joe had an idea a while ago that I think would be great to follow up on: let's all go to the temple at the same time. We might not be able to all be in the same room together, but in a very real way we will all be together in the Lord's work.
I think a great opportunity to make it happen is fast approaching. First, this would be a great way to help celebrate Mom & Dad's 50th anniversary. Second, Brett will be going to the temple for the first time, if I understand right, in Recife where Rachel and Feliciano are going to meet him. So I've done a little research on times and here is what I have come up with:
On Friday, September 16th (I know it is not Mom and Dad's anniversary but I think Rachel and Brett will be in Recife then and on Fridays we have an early session in Mesa) could we all be in the temple at the following times?

Melinda returns to BYU...waahh

Melinda returns to BYU...waahh

Melinda left this morning to return to her studies at BYU. We are all crying here in Mesa. She has been great to be with, especially since she helps Adam do his jobs...he does a great job on the bathroom and dishes with Melinda's help!
Melinda also decided she wanted to play the Harp so she rented one and took lessons. Here she is just before she returned the harp. I have since learned that the Harp place has the harp she wants to buy at a good price. It is a "Dusty Strings" and a little bigger than the one in the picture. She told me on the way to the airport when I asked if she were excited about BYU Football, that she would be saving her money for a Harp. Brought tears to her mother's eyes (mine too but for a different reason!).
We miss you already Melinda!

"It's Better to Be Kind Than to Be Right"

I was looking at some books online the other day (big surprise there, I know Ü), and I found this excerpt from a book that looks really great... Dad: The Man Who Lied to Save the Planet, 12 Timeless Virtues Handed Down to a Son by an Everyday Dad (by James Michael Pratt). The excerpt was printed in an article entitled "It's Better to Be Kind Than to Be Right" in MormonLife. I really enjoyed reading it, and it shares a great message. If you would like to read it too, just click on the link below.

P.S. Dad, I thought of this story again when you were talking last night about how you learned the same sort of lesson from your dad. Ü

Rebecca and Reid (look at ring finger)

engaged!

Rebecca skipped out of FHE to go on a date with Reid. They returned while we were playing Phase 10 to show us THE RING. Yes, they are officially engaged. We, Richard and Marilee, already knew that is was going to happen Monday because Reid had talked to us alone on Sunday while Rebecca was at the Singles' Ward. ;-) But we did not know how. We'll let Rebecca make her own blog entry about how he proposed. Anyway, we are very excited for them.
