Mesa Scorpions...

Mesa Scorpions...

Tonight we went on a scorpion hunt in our yard. You have to do that every so often, seems to be the only effective way to keep them out of your house. So we go out with a black light and some walking sticks and look for the bright green specks on the walls. It is pretty exciting. Our good friend, and new Mesa resident, Dan Crites, came over to help us get 14 tonight! (It has been awhile) He had two of the hardest catches, one high up in the eaves of the house, and one on the branch of some vines. Thanks Dan!
I realized after talking to Brett that many of you haven't been hunting with us. Here is a couple of pictures I took some time ago of a mother scorpion with babies on her back. I shot it also with the black light on. It was hard to hold still... Just looking at these and yo

Melinda returns to BYU...waahh

Melinda returns to BYU...waahh

Melinda left this morning to return to her studies at BYU. We are all crying here in Mesa. She has been great to be with, especially since she helps Adam do his jobs...he does a great job on the bathroom and dishes with Melinda's help!
Melinda also decided she wanted to play the Harp so she rented one and took lessons. Here she is just before she returned the harp. I have since learned that the Harp place has the harp she wants to buy at a good price. It is a "Dusty Strings" and a little bigger than the one in the picture. She told me on the way to the airport when I asked if she were excited about BYU Football, that she would be saving her money for a Harp. Brought tears to her mother's eyes (mine too but for a different reason!).
We miss you already Melinda!

"It's Better to Be Kind Than to Be Right"

I was looking at some books online the other day (big surprise there, I know Ü), and I found this excerpt from a book that looks really great... Dad: The Man Who Lied to Save the Planet, 12 Timeless Virtues Handed Down to a Son by an Everyday Dad (by James Michael Pratt). The excerpt was printed in an article entitled "It's Better to Be Kind Than to Be Right" in MormonLife. I really enjoyed reading it, and it shares a great message. If you would like to read it too, just click on the link below.

"It's Better to Be Kind Than to Be Right"

P.S. Dad, I thought of this story again when you were talking last night about how you learned the same sort of lesson from your dad. Ü

Adam just left for the first day of school. And Diana is having her first day at home with no children...ok, I'm there but that doesn't count.

Cool Picture

Earth Lights
This is a picture I found and edited to use as a desktop picture. It is cool to see the lights of the earth and think about all those people. Then to look at each place where you know you have loved ones and friends. Kinda cool. Here is the link to the original site: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap001127.html

How missionaries have fun!

How missionaries have fun!

Hey everyone! On transfer day we go to Fedex Parking lot and wait for president's call to come and pick up the new missionaries at the airport. Well, their plane was delayed, so we decided to shoot some cool pics while waiting. The elder with me is Elder Gent. He just left the office.

My new address!

Hey everyone. I have just been transfered to be an office elder. My new address is 5651 Broad St. Greendale, WI 53129. It's just the mission office address. Now that i'm in the office i think i will be able to actually post some pictures as well. Till then, TAKE LUCK AND CARE!

At Long Last....Yeah!!!

At Long Last....Yeah!!!

Well, today I left work a couple hours early and went with my Dad down to the DMV. I filled out the paperwork and then began the wait for the driving test. Finally my name was called and I went outside to take the test. I did well in the preliminary test (u-turn and 3-point turn...harder than it looks in a big Suburban beast), and then waited my turn for the drive with the judge. I actually started up the conversation with the judge, and my drive went smoothly. I was most worried about parking at the end, but that turned out just fine. I got out of the car with a big smile and a signature on my paper saying I could have a driver's license! Happy Day Ü !

Daniel and Becca swim in the championship

Daniel and Becca swim in the championship

Daniel and Rebecca both qualified through the divisionals and semi-finals to swim in the city finals. Only eight in each age group for each stroke were allowed to go on. Daniel qualified in 8th position for breaststroke and Rebecca qualified 8th for freestyle. Mountain View's mens swim coach has been really happy with all the Free's that have been swimming, he has even talked Jess into trying out for the team this year. Nate, McKay, Elena, Josh all swam exceptionally well this year. I think they need to give a ribbon to the parents who sat in the 2000 degree weather in the stands!

They did great both finishing 8th. Here are some video clips: Daniel Rebecca

23rd Anniversary Outing

23rd Anniversary Outing

Diana and I went to the moutains (See Canyon Trailhead near Christopher Creek) for our 23rd Anniversary celebration. We left early Friday morning and had camp setup by about 10:30am and a fish on the line a few minutes later. We ended up keeping four fish on ice for dinner then took off for a hike to the Spring. Most of these pictures come from the hike. I got up early Saturday and drove in to Payson to get the latest Harry Potter book. Then we spent most of the day reading it together. Very fun time, we'd like to go again soon!

Rebecca and Holly scare

Rebecca and Holly scareRebecca and Holly scare

Rebecca and Holly gave us a scare on Thursday (I'm sure they were more scared than we were). A young man that just turned 17 turned his Suburban in front of their little white car and there was a crunch sound. They both had their seatbelts on and have the bruises and abrasions along the neck to prove it.

The police called Marilee and just told her they had been in an accident and what hospital they were being taken to. Nothing about the seriousness. She called Rich at work and then I got to go with her to the hospital. We went in and they made her answer questions and fill out paperwork before they would let us see them. While we were in the lobby the ambulance came. These pictures were taken with my lousy camera phone through the window and the shades.

The picture with the guy in the helmut is Holly the other is Rebecca. It turns out the guy with the helmut is Rich! He had just arrived and went in with them. He didn't have to go through the paperwork!

We were really impressed with the Nelson's hospitality for us. But I think next time they can tone done the entertainment a bit!

Panaca 2005

Panaca 2005

A few of us snuck over to Panaca on Friday for a couple of hours. We looked at the Wheeler Ranch, played in the sand dunes and swam in the spring! This is a great time of year for the tadpoles or pollywogs. You could see them popping up to get a gulp of air. It looked like bubbles all over the surface! Too fun. The picture will link you to many pictures of the adventures that day. I got carried away with the Wheeler Ranch...but that site had a sacred feeling to me.
