Mike's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Mike's Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 1/2 Cups - White Sugar
1 1/2 Cups - Brown Sugar (Packed)
2 Cubes - Butter/Margarine
3 eggs - (Chicken) Ü
1 Cup - Shortening
1 Tablespoon - Vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons - Baking Soda
1 1/2 teaspoons - Salt
5 Cups - Flour
1 (12 oz.) bag - MILK Chocolate Chips
Mix in that order. In order to make the PERFECT cookies, you MUST use MILK chocholate chips. Others may try to turn you to the Dark-Side using their "firery (semi-sweet) darts". If you fall into the temptation, you will only have a semi-perfect cookie (which is a bad thing). Anyway...back to the PERFECT cookies. Roll cookie dough into balls, with your hands (this makes them perfectly round when cooking). Place the balls on an UNgreased cookie sheet (they already have enough butter and shortening in it). Bake for 8-10 min. at 375˚. Pull them out and wait for the cookies to set. Then you may go ahead and place them on a cooling rack... or just eat them before the kids come home from school. Ü

Mike takes 1st at George Young Invitational!

On Saturday, Mike ran again in another invitational. It included many teams including the ones that beat him last time. But not today. Mike got his first "first"! And he looked good. Too bad I didn't have a camera. But I did see someone from our stake there and I borrowed his camera and got a clip of the finish...click on the picture to see it!

Happy Birthday Rebecca!

Mike takes 6th at J.V. Conley Invitational

Mike ran an excellent race today. There must have been nearly 200 kids running. Mike finished 6th. MountainView dominated finishing 1,2,3,4, and 6. A few more right after that too! Here is a set of pictures of Mike during the race. The start is at the right and the finish at the left. Way to go Mike!

Here is a picture that Adam likes to draw lately. It is a T-Rex with an apple tree (T-Rex's are taller than trees - according to Adam) and a volcano. He wanted to get it to Joseph. So here you go Joseph!
Here are his words to Joseph:
"I hope you like my picture and it has my name on it. And I love you and I hope you come back soon. And I hope you have good time at your mission.

And I hope you have a good time at your own city. And I hope you like your own house. And that's all."

South African Friends in Mesa!

South African Friends in Mesa!

Erma and Erin joined us for dinner before Erma headed for the airport and several hours of flying to return to South Africa. It was a crazy time with kids at twelve different places. Not sure that we were the best hosts but the talk was wonderful, the food was great and there were smiles all around. It is great to make new friends, thanks Mom & Dad! We've almost got Erin talked into riding up with us at Christmas time so she can see temple square.

A couple of Toro Tough cousins....

Jess and Becca are both on the Mtn View swim team. Jess as a senior and Becca as a freshman. They swam this afternoon against Corona Del Sol. In the tradition of the great Jopes, Jess swam the 500 tonight (20 laps). It about killed her but she did great. Too bad they don't give medals for great smiles.

Brett leaves happy people wherever he goes...

The surprise party for Brett went great. He was surprised and we all partied. Click on the picture for more images from the party.

Temple Session Scheduled

Temple Session Scheduled

Ok, based on everyone's input, we are scheduled for this Friday the 16th. If you want to be in the temple at the exact same time as Mom & Dad, be there at the times listed in the graphic. There is one exception to that and that is Tokyo. You would need to be in the temple at 10:30 PM which I assume is too late (unless you are on the janitorial crew).
So this goes for everyone: if you can be there at the times listed, great! If you can't, just being in the temple on the same day is a great thing, especially if we are unified in our faith and prayers.
To that end, Dad suggested that we all focus our faith and prayers on that day to blessing the lives of the members of our family that won't be participating with us. There is great power in unity, faith and prayers focused on righteous desires.
I am grateful to be unified with such a great group of people and look forward to a wonderful experience this Friday. See you in the Lord's House!

Can we all do a session together?

Can we all do a session together?

So Joe had an idea a while ago that I think would be great to follow up on: let's all go to the temple at the same time. We might not be able to all be in the same room together, but in a very real way we will all be together in the Lord's work.
I think a great opportunity to make it happen is fast approaching. First, this would be a great way to help celebrate Mom & Dad's 50th anniversary. Second, Brett will be going to the temple for the first time, if I understand right, in Recife where Rachel and Feliciano are going to meet him. So I've done a little research on times and here is what I have come up with:
On Friday, September 16th (I know it is not Mom and Dad's anniversary but I think Rachel and Brett will be in Recife then and on Fridays we have an early session in Mesa) could we all be in the temple at the following times?
